ExtJS (their JavaScript Library) gets not unchanged. I think there will be much much more cool news regarding Sencha in the future.

It uses only Web Technologys – No Flash. I write this because it might look like Flash in the video.

Bespin is not another richt text editor. It is a fully integrated development environment usable right in your browser. Like the title of Bespin Homepage says: “Code in the Cloud”.

There is also a release party of the new ExtJS 3.0 release.


The Sessions are also very impressive: Douglas Crockford speaks at the keynote about “The future of JavaScript”, Jack Slocum officially releases ExtJS 3.0 in the Keynote on the second day and many sessions will introduce some of new features of the new release like Data binding and Comet support.

Is someone from europe going to attend the conference? Perhaps someone from Austria? I mean the location would also be a nice short holiday! ;-)

Some of them will be:

  • Comet
  • Charting API
  • etc…

Now Jack Slocum posted a preview of a visual drag and drop developer tool for ExtJS. In the Screencast he shows how to create a grid with an XML Source with Drag and Drop.

He also shows how to create reusable user created components.You can watch a preview development of this tool at screencast.com.

It looks like the Developer Tool itself is written with Ext, which shows the power of this JavaScript UI Library. In the Screencast the Developer Tool is deployed for Adobe Air. Although i like Adobe AIR, i hope the ExtJS Team will not only release this tool as an Adobe AIR App.

Some of these are:

  • Flash Charting API
  • Ext.Direct – Remoting and data streaming/comet support – on of my favorites.
  • Integrated client-server data binding/marshaling of updates
  • ARIA/Section 508 accessibility improvements
  • Update the Ext event registration model
  • Ext.Ajax enhancements
  • All new lightweight, high-speed core base library

Some words on the “new lightweight, high-speed core base library”:

Jack Slocum confirmed that this lightweight core base library is released under the MIT License. Even though some might think that there were enough noise about licensing around Jack Slocums ExtJS, i think that this step is a good and promising step. I also think that the License change to GPLv3 was good (except the way the change was done) for ExtJS, by the way. Anyway….

I am really looking forward to this new release in “Early 2009″.

Selenium is tool to automate testing the functionality of web applications. Tests are written in Selenese, a very simple HTML Syntax.

In his article he describrs how to test a Form Interface genereated with ExtJS. But the article is a very good introduction in Selenium and how to write such tests, regardless of the used JavaScript Library.

Dort gibt er gesammelt seine Plugins und Extensions zum Download frei und zu (fast) jedem Download eine Demo.

Unter anderem findet man als Plugin das FileTree Panel inklusive Upload Dialog. Leider fehlt noch die Möglichkeit mehrere Files gleichzeitig hochzuladen was darauf zurückzuführen ist, dass dies nur mit einem Flash Plugin unter Windows und Mac möglich ist, nicht aber unter Linux.


Ausserdem hat er auch einen Blog gestartet wo er, wie gewohnt, sehr üppige und aufschlußreiche Infos und How-Tos postet. In einem Artikel geht er auf das schreiben von “großen Applikationen” ein.

Ich wünsche viel Erfolg weiterhin.

Das Spiel benötigt nur eine JavaScript Datei (14kb!!!) und keine zusätzlichen Grafiken. Alle Grafiken/Bilder werden mittels canvas erzeugt oder mit anderen Div Techniken. Für eine volle Beschreibung des Spiels schaut auf den Blogpost.

Seit der ersten Release von SimplicityPHP hat sich sehr viel getan. Eine neue Dev Version 0.2 des PHP Frameworks mit nativer ExtJS Unterstützung wurde veröffentlicht. Ausserdem wurde auf der Entwicklerseite ein Trac eingerichtet. Die Lizenz ist nun unter der GPLv3 veröffentlicht. Ich glaube jedoch das es hier klüger gewesen wäre die LGPLv3 zu wählen.

Der Schwerpunkt der Release liegt neben einigen Bug Fixes vor allem in der Adobe AIR Unterstützung. Das Ext Team arbeitete eng mit dem Adobe Air Team zusammen um die neue Version zusammen mit Adobe Air 1.0 zu veröffentlichen.

Im Ext Blog findet man eine aktualisierte Version von Simple Tasks – ein Demo von ExtJS, dass die Adobe AIR Unterstützung von ExtJS zeigt.

Das Framework kann vom Launchpad heruntergeladen werden. Die Installation findet mit einem Wizard statt, der mit der ExtJS JavaScript Library programmiert wurde. Auf der Seite findet man auch einige Screenshots des Wizards und auch der Administrationskonsole. Bin gespannt wie sich dieses Framework weiterentwickelt und welche genauen Features es letztendlich haben wird, da jetzt noch alles in Entwicklung ist und laut John nicht mehr als eine Alpha Version ist.
