Thats what you can see in the compatibility tables on “When can i use” .

So, what does this mean? PLEASE, do not support IE anymore! Develop your web-sites/applications that they degrade gracefully to IE, if you want so, but do not create them to work and look the same way with the same functionality. Use the features most other browser supports (CSS3, …) and tell users of IE that they have to use a modern browser!

Tell the people about other browsers. Tell them how easy it is to migrate to another browser and what the benefits are FOR THEM!

WE DO NOT WANT AND NEED ANOTHER “NEW” IE. The last ones were enough.

According to a report by TechWorld, a student asked Steve Ballmer on a Developer Conference in Australia:

“Why is IE still relevant and why is it worth spending money on rendering engines when there are open source ones available that can respond to changes in Web standards faster?”

Steve Ballmer replied:

“That’s cheeky, but a good question, but cheeky,” Ballmer explained that Microsoft would need to consider the future of the browser and determine if there is any lack of innovation for the company to capitalize upon with ‘proprietary extensions that broaden its functionality.’”

“Open source is interesting, Apple has embraced Webkit and we may look at that, but we will continue to build extensions for IE 8.”


Yes, i know – that sounds not if Microsoft is going to release IE8 with the WebKit Engine, but i think it is a right step. We will see what the future will bring us.
